Video: A Green Drink to Celebrate the Exuberance of Spring

My dear brothers and sisters,

At Living Tree Community we are devoted to living foods. For most days we eat only one meal. We begin each week, with a fast from Sunday night through Tuesday early evening. We break our fast with a green drink of living greens blended in a combination of orange, beet and carrot juice. For six days a week our foods are alive-raw and organic. We do this by way of reply to an ultra processed world whose bywords are obesity and infertility.

If you too follow a live food regime, we'd love to hear about your experiences.

May we mention that shipping is free so here’s your opportunity to stock up on Tahini, Walnut Butter, Cashew Butter, Hemp Heart Butter, Flame Raisins, Thompson Seedless Raisins and Brazil nuts.

Videos this week

We celebrate this vital Spring with a Green Drink. We start with carrot juice and put it in a blender along with oranges, lemons and limes. Then we add a chopped beet, dandelion greens, Romain lettuce, curly leafed kale and an avocado. Here is vitality.

Next Dr.Berg tells us how inflammation is a normal healing repair process, but when your body has chronic inflammation, all sorts of destruction can occur. He points out some wonderful ways to heal this condition.

Fully Raw Kristina then prepares a living apple pie. She ingeniously makes it in multiple layers of sliced apples. Between each layer is a filling of apples blended with pitted and chopped dates, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Finally, Evangelyn Rodriguez contrasts walnuts and pecans. Walnut have more protein and omega 3s. Pecans are high in B vitamins. Pecans and walnuts support heart health and walnuts may enhance brain function.

Please accept our best wishes for good health, prosperity, and success to you and your family,

Pecans vs. Walnuts: A nutritional showdown between two superfood nuts

Remote image

by Evangelyn Rodriguez

  • Both pecans and walnuts are rich in heart-healthy fats, fiber and antioxidants. Walnuts have more protein and omega-3s (ALA). Pecans contain more phytosterols, aiding cholesterol regulation.
  • Pecans are high in B vitamins (thiamin, folate, niacin) for energy metabolism. Walnuts excel in manganese, copper, magnesium and phosphorus for bone and enzyme function.
  • Pecans and walnuts support heart health by improving cholesterol levels. Walnuts may enhance brain function (neuroprotective polyphenols). Both aid weight management by promoting satiety and supporting blood sugar control.
  • Walnuts are nutty and slightly bitter—ideal for savory dishes. Pecans are buttery and mildly sweet—popular in desserts and snacks.
  • Pick walnuts for omega-3s and protein. Choose pecans for cholesterol management and sweeter flavor. Both are nutrient-dense and beneficial in a balanced diet.

In the world of nutrient-dense superfoods, pecans and walnuts stand out as two powerhouse nuts, each offering a unique blend of health benefits, flavors and culinary versatility. While they share similarities, such as being rich in heart-healthy fats, antioxidants and essential minerals, their differences in taste, texture and nutritional profiles make them distinct choices for health-conscious consumers. Whether sprinkled over salads, blended into smoothies, or enjoyed raw as a snack, both pecans and walnuts have earned their place in a balanced diet. But how do they truly compare when examined side by side?
