Video: Fasting - The Oldest Cure

Dear brothers and sisters,

We take pleasure in presenting you with The Oldest Cure, a video on fasting. We see it  as the royal road to  rejuvenation, healing and repair. It strengthens the immune system, promotes weight loss, decreases the risk for heart disease and cancer, improves cognitive function and increases longevity.

It is a  way to strengthen the immune system and is effective against the common cold.

Its also a great way to lose weight.

We then step back and look at the need to repair the social fabric.Given the unending succession of crises we are led to ask, “What else is there to do, brothers and sisters, than proclaim a national fast?”

A day of healing.  A day taking stock, a day of making resolutions.

A day of contrition. A day of redemption.

Imagine! A national holiday, a day of fasting on water.

We are convinced that we will emerge more vital and alive. We will yet plant here an edible schoolyard for the American spirit.

We follow with Ben, with GrowVeg, our favorite horticulturalist, who outlines for us Five Steps to a Highly Productive Garden.

There is a recipe for Moroccan Chickpea Stew- your friends and family will rejoice in its symphony of flavors.

Then, of course, a biotech company is planning to release masses of GMO mosquitoes in California. In such experiments involving the extraordinarily complex genetic code it seems invariable that there are unforeseen consequences.

This is followed by  a masterful talk on food addiction by Joel Fuhrman MD and multiple, New York Times Best Selling Author.

Our November sale includes Brazil Nut Butter an excellent source of selenium and Cashew Butter which lends itself so well to making vegan "cheesecake". Our California grown, dried tomatoes, organic and salt free, are just the thing for sauces and pasta.

Plan to Release GMO Mosquitoes in California Draws Fire From California Lawmakers, Environmentalists by Julia Conley

As environmental advocates call on regulators to “lead with sound science” regarding the proposed release of thousands of genetically engineered (GE) mosquitoes on a weekly basis in central California, eight Democratic lawmakers on Thursday demanded that officials reject the proposal without an in-depth review of its potential impacts.

Biotech company Oxitec aims to make California the second state — after Florida — to have an experimental release of its GE mosquitoes and has applied for a permit to conduct research with its product at 48 test sites in Tulare County.

The experimental release would target the mosquito species Aedes aegypti and aim to reduce its population in Tulare County.

According to the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), which can approve or deny the research authorization, between 5,000 and 30,000 GE mosquitoes would be released on a weekly basis at each site and the permit would be effective through April 30, 2024.

While Oxitec has previously highlighted the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) conclusion that such releases don’t adversely affect humans or the environment, the California lawmakers said in a letter to the DPR that a review of the proposal by the EPA is not sufficient.

“Significant scientific research is still needed to understand the potential public health and environmental concerns associated with the release of this novel insect prior to any approval,” wrote the legislators.
