Video: A Victory Garden Now for an Abundant Early Spring

Dear brothers and sisters,

There is a severe drought in California. When you consider that California produces 40% of all the organic food grown in the US it seems that food shortages and disruptions are on the way. The price of organic food has nowhere to go but up.

Not only organic food but prices in general. The unrestrained printing of money is leading to a hyper inflation, which will inevitably be followed by bankruptcies and then a crash. A crisis is at hand. We reply: “Hug the earth!”

Emulate “the greatest generation”. Plant a victory garden as they did after Pearl Harbor.

By May 1943, there were 18 million victory gardens in the United States – 12 million in cities and 6 million on farms.

In that year these backyard gardens produced 40% of all vegetables consumed in the U.S.

Eleanor Roosevelt instituted a victory garden on the White House lawn.

Winter is approaching. Plant hearty vegetables that will make it through in many parts of the States.Imagine the abundance of salad greens you’ll rejoice in come early spring.

If you live in an apartment, you can grow sprouts. Why not sow some arugula. It's a powerful germinator. In a few weeks you’ll have plenty. You can also grow wheat grass and barley grass.

Brothers and sisters! Start that victory garden! Join a community garden.Every schoolyard, an edible schoolyard! Every public park an edible landscape!

Let’s go forward to abundance!

Let’s build here a Victory Garden for the American spirit!

Living Tree Victory Garden Video Contest

Take us on a tour!

We'd love to visit your garden now that harvest time is approaching. Your garden could be in your backyard, your front yard, your community garden or edible schoolyard. It could even be in your kitchen if you’re doing sprouts and wheat grass.

We invite you to do a  video. Take us with you as you walk down the rows of lettuce, spinach and kale. Maybe there's even a pumpkin patch. Why not play Mozart or Mendelssohn in the background?

Furthermore, we’ll share your video with brothers and sisters everywhere, featuring it in our newsletter.

We will award a $300 gift certificate for the most beguiling entry.

Please send your recipe video here

Contest ends Sunday September 19th.

Recipe: Healthy Raw Vegan Pumpkin Pie

recipe image from remote site

I am really on a pumpkin spice bender this fall. It’s kind of ridiculous. As soon as the weather cooled down a little, I wanted to make a pumpkin pie right away. I have a recipe that I really love but I wanted to make a version with less coconut oil for a lighter version. This version of the recipe is still rich, with cashew, hazelnut and coconut cream, but is almost half of the calories of my previous pie!

Ingredients

Date Crust

  • 2 cups hazelnuts
  • 6 dates
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Pumpkin Pie Filling

  • 2 cups cashews, soaked 2 hours
  • 2 cups peeled pumpkin
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons coconut cream
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon soy lecithin granules (optional)
