Video: An Interview with Olivia and Darro Grieco - Masters of the Berkeley Olive Grove

Dear brothers and sisters,

Olivia and Darro Grieco create  our Heritage Olive Oil. They are California family farmers, the true guardians of their  soil, plants and trees.

They make our Heritage Olive Oil from Mission olives, an heirloom variety introduced to California over 250 years ago.  They grow the olives in their world historic Berkeley Olive Grove. Professors and engineers with the University of California founded it in 1913.

Located at the base of Table Mountain in the heart of Butte County, in Northern California, the soil and clime there are ideal for olive growing.

We invite you to rejoice in its robust flavor. Those in the know will note how its pungency enhances the flavors of food.

This olive oil has a high available biophenol content, 2.7 times the average. Biophenols are a subset of antioxidants; they have a wide range of effects on the body.

Some biophenols keep your skin glowing, while others help to promote good gut health, thereby enhancing your immune system.

If If you are planning to re-create yourself with alive, organic food, then increasing your intake of biophenols should be on your agenda.

This olive oil has, along with its bitterness and pungency, mineral and green vegetable organoleptic characteristics.

Tibetan Black Barley - Alive & Organic

Living Tree Community Foods Raw Organic Tibetan Black Barley is provided by Oregon Grain & Bean, with this crop grown on an organic farm in Idaho. Tibetan Black Barley, with its bran intact, retains its firm, plump texture during cooking, making it perfect in soups, stuffings and stews. It’s also great when mixed with other grains due to its somewhat chewy, contrasting texture.

Buckwheat Groats - Alive & Organic

Buckwheat Groats are buckwheat seeds that have been hulled. Subtly flavored when raw, buckwheat develops an earthly, nutty taste when roasted, long used as a tasty cereal-type grain called kasha.

This gluten-free grain can be substituted for wheat, oats, rye or barley. You may also grind it into a flour to use in buckwheat pancakes or combine with wheat flour to use in baked goods.
