Video: Let's Get Back to Our Vital Roots

Dear brothers and sisters,

We explore an analogy between structural weakness in the economy and in the health of Americans.

Over the last decade, the economy has been exceptionally weak; growth has been exceedingly slow. From 1950-1999, real GDP growth averaged 3.6% per year but in the last 20 years, from 2000 - 2020, it has averaged a meagre 1.8%. In other words, growth has been cut in half.

In regard to the health of Americans, unbelievably, over 70 million — 42 percent of the adult population — are obese.  Tragically enough, 15 million are morbidly obese.

The US has the lowest life expectancy among comparable countries - at the top we have Japan Switzerland, Australia, France, Sweden and at the bottom, ranking 12th, is the US.

Let us note also, that the birthrate is the lowest since they began keeping records; its been below replacement since 1971.

It seems to us that in regard to the manifest weakness in the economy and the deterioration of the health of Americans, the measures that have been taken have been superficial, to say the least.

We can do better. We suggest different path, longer and more arduous… that of healing this people and this American earth. A first step on the road back would encompass the revitalization of agricultural, the resuscitation of family farms, victory gardens, community gardens and edible schoolyards.

Your comments and suggestions would be so appreciated,
