For years we’ve been offering a Canadian wild rice that was wildcrafted, but not organic. Here’s one grown in Oregon that is organic.
Our Organic Wild Rice comes from a small family farm outside of Mt. Angel, Oregon. With an ethic of resourcefulness, the Ruef family built dikes on 50 acres of flood-prone clay soil in which they now successfully grow our vivacious and vibrant Organic Wild Rice. The rice is also processed on the farm.
Wild rice is an aquatic grass seed in the cereal grain family and is one of the most nutritious whole grains available. Its properties are much like oats and wheat. It is high in protein and low in fat. With it’s smoky, nut-like flavor and chewy texture, wild rice is delicious in stuffing, as a side dish, or featured as a cold salad mixed with cranberries, nuts, feta cheese and other grains.
The Ruef family strives to make their farm as sustainable as possible through diversification; using available biological and natural resources; and using water effectively.
